Pictures of kids

Picture Day

“A picture is worth a thousand words”. Imagine what happened recently for Picture Day, when thousands of photos were taken! What with classroom photos, individual photos, graduation photos, and sibling photos, we had it all.
It was a pleasure to have LifeTouch send two of their highly trained photographers to shoot the portraits of all of our love bugs, a semi-annual event around here. And what a visual spectacle it was. They say never work with animals or kids – clearly we disagree at ScuttleBugs! Sure it can be challenging, and you often end up with unexpected results – but the flip side can be both rewarding and entertaining.

I remember my own school picture days, back before the convenience of digital photography when cameras used film. When you didn’t know exactly what image was captured until the photos were developed. Not that I don’t enjoy modern day tools and technology, but there’s something to be said for the added anticipation and excitement of finally seeing the printed version in hand.

ScuttleBugs is a huge fan of candid shots. And even though the stage was set with somewhat contrived backdrops, lighting, props and poses, we still managed to capture many moments of a variety of emotions and facial expressions. Luckily, most of the older children no longer experience any stranger anxiety, and were able to, for the most part, cooperate with the photographers. In addition to the individual photos, each graduating Pre-K student also had the opportunity to take photos in their caps and gowns! It made many parents and teachers teary-eyed, to see their children grow up so quickly and enjoy this keepsake for years to come!

While the big kid photos went well, it was a bit of a different story for the younger crew! With big cameras, flashing lights, and unfamiliar people looking at you – it was quite the new experience for our little ones. And boy, the pictures show you just that! Surprisingly though, parents are sometimes even more excited to purchase the quirky photos of their child crying or looking like a deer caught in the headlights. It’s just such a comical way to have a timeline representation of how much they grow and mature from year to year.

We’re sure these photos will make an appearance at many a coming of age birthday party over the course of each child’s life. Congratulations to all of our little models, you did an amazing job and we can’t wait to see and share more pictures in the future.
